Singh Twins (1966 - )

The internationally acclaimed Singh Twins utilize traditional techniques of Indian miniature painting to produce beautiful works of art that are deeply engaged with contemporary issues. It is evident that their works are carefully researched before being produced, giving us a nuanced and refreshing understanding of some of the most difficult questions of our time.

Samena Rana (1955- 1992)

Pakistani photographer and disability activist Samena Rana created powerful works which explore themes of disability, identity, sexuality, family and memories. In her photographs she juxtaposed sharp and bold imagery such as knives, mirrors and glass with textiles, jewellery and paraphernalia to create richly textured and layered compositions.

Avinash Chandra

Artist Avinash Chandra was one of the most successful modern Indian British painters. He arrived in London in 1956 and within ten years, the BBC had produced a documentary about him, the V&A bought his work and he had became the first Indian painter to have work displayed at the Tate Gallery, London.

Sampad (1990 - )

Founded in 1990, Sampad is a development agency for South Asian Arts based in Birmingham. It promotes the appreciation and practice of the diverse art forms originating from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in the West Midlands and works with youth and community audiences and participates in educational and professional artistic development.

Juginder Lamba (1948 - )

Creation, fertility, liberation, and growth are some of the main themes renowned sculptor Juginder Lamba has explored in his sculptures. City councils, art galleries, and cultural centres all over the UK and Europe have commissioned Lamba's work, which are greatly influenced by the cross-cultural society, and experiences in which he lives.

Amal Ghosh

Storytelling, mythology, colonialism and spirituality are just some of the themes that artist Amal Ghosh explores in his paintings. He uses an interplay of colour and allegory to portray complex references to his own life experiences and travels between India and England.

Horizon Gallery (1987 - 1991)

Established in January 1987 in London, the Horizon Gallery was initially the visual arts wing of the Indian Artists UK (IAUK). The Gallery aimed to mainly present the visual art work of South Asian British artists.
